The end of carousel

For the last week working on carousel, we didn't really have too much to do. Rosie and I worked on the red hut which ended up too red...then too orange, that wood just drinks up the paint!
Jan is now in the department, that boy is hilarious but I don't even think he knows he's being funny. He questions everything and he was put in charge of the roof for the hut and he just smothered it in glue and sawdust, so much that it took about 3 days to dry! Also got another first year to major in scenic which is good, next year would have been pretty busy if there were only 3 of them!

I also worked a little bit on my personal project but didn't get much done, its very time consuming! I've decided to just keep it as a pencil drawing as I don't think ill have enough time to paint it before I graduate...scary! I really need to spend more time on it though!

Im looking forward to start working on merry wives, although talking with Simon yesterday and finding out that their wood order hadn't arrived and that Josh had been off for a week so they are now running a week behind didn't really settle my nerves....Hopefully we'll have something to work on next week!

Im planning on starting a Dali painting for my brother this week, I promised him a painting for his new flat as a  late christmas present. He;s up in April so I need to get it done by then so he can take it back home with him :)

As for now, my sister is through for the weekend and the girls are coming over tonight for nachos and wine, hopefully it wont be my last weekend of freedom for the next month but if it is then ill make sure it's fun....although my sister can be a bit of a handful at times, we are completely different so she can drive me a little crazy at times....

Last weeks of Carousel

Another week working on Carousel. Alex came and saw the work and told us that he wanted the huts broken down, even though his model pieces were in pristine condition, so after Simon had been at them with his axe, we had to touch them up and make them look worn down.

Tuesday was pancake day so we went to Rosie's after uni, it was great, we made so many pancakes, I don't know why we wait for that one day a year to eat them. Im going to eat them more often!

We had to add a bit more texture to the floor  and finish doing the side panels. A lot of this week was spent waiting for paint to dry so we were allowed to work on our personal projects. This perspective drawing i've decided to do is taking a long time! But now that i'm started it, i'm beginning to enjoy it a little more....although i am still only on building one of about 20, each with a different vanishing point, and there's the boats and the figures too....this is going to be a very time consuming project I think...

I started doing some planning for merry wives this week. Ordered some paints with Gary and went through the build schedule with Simon so just need to make a schedule for scenic now and we'll be ready to start in a weeks time. Very exciting!
Off home this weekend to see my mummy and sister as I've not seen them since the beginning of January!
Next week im going to knuckle down and start my portrait at home and go to a life drawing class on Tuesday at the flying duck and stay late one night to work on my personal project.

Not long left and a lot of work to improve on! Scary stuff!

Bridge week

I had big plans for this week! Start a couple of personal projects, get my essays done, do some sewing.

I did make some of them a reality... I decided to take a break from my portrait that I did for my negotiated project as I wasn't really enjoying it and didnt feel I was making progress and wanted to start a new one. I did a bit of research on a few artists styles and liked the work of Sam Walsh. I found a baby picture of me that I liked so decided I would do that and would decide once id drawn it up what style id do it as it was just a black and white photo so couldn't decide to do it black and white or to add colour.
Im also going to start a Dali painting for my brother as a flat warming present as he recently bought a house and that is what he asked for, so i think that will be pretty interesting to do.

I managed to get my essays started on Monday and was in uni on Tuesday asking for Gary's advice on what to do my next personal project on as i want to do something with a wow factor. He suggested I do some perspective, which I do need to improve on. I spent most of my time researching and being told no no no again and again from Gary. Finally we agreed on a Canaletto.

I also got some sewing done and made myself a bag. I'd been in Mandors with Rose the week before helping her find some fabric for her chair and had fallen in love with this map fabric we found and i had decided to make myself a bag out of it...which i did, and I love it. It was actually not too tricky so i've decided to make a few and try and sell them and see if i can make some extra cash..always good as a student!

Gary had been telling us about some street art he'd seen and Simon had mentioned a place in the south side called titan props that he said was worth a look so we decided to have a wee scenic day out on Thursday and went on a wee explore to find Glasgows hidden art. It was very interesting, especially titan props. It had started off as a film set but the budget ran out so now they rent out props and the space, but some of the scenery that they built is still there.
So it was quite a productive week. I got my 2 essays done, did the research and found what I want to do for my 2 projects at home. Made a bag, bought more material to make some more bags and started my personal project at uni. A productive week. I definitely deserved those lie ins and that pyjama day though!

Carousel

Back from London and I got stuck straight into musical theatre. Were working on Carousel, I haven't actually seen the model yet but have seen a few of the model pieces.
Fraser and I were put to work on making the butchered wood graining on the groyne look like actual bits of wood. We used a few different colours to try and create the natural woody look then we put a wash over it to bring it all together and to bring out the grains of the wood.
It did take a while and it was quite hard to get it to look like wood as the wood graining was questionable so following the lines of the wood didn't really work but it looked a bit odd when we didn't follow the lines after was brought out the grain. It did take quite a while and we just had to get to a point and leave it and wait for Alex's opinion.

Next we worked on Julie's cottage which we just had a few washes, to make the wood look more like wood... This was quite time consuming as the wood just sucked up the paint and it looked like we hadn't even painted it. Once we put on the dirty wash it looked much better. We used the spray gun to make the bottom blocks look like concrete, I think they need more work...

We also did a bit of work on the floor. Sticking bits of foam onto the spaces between the clumps of foam so it didnt look so clumpy. The motivation was low for this task but we did try and make it fun...as much as you can. Bring on bridge week!!
